HP, Walmart and Back-To-School - Giveaway!

It is back to school time - this week where I live the traditional year students started school (including my teen).   Back to School has a way of sneaking up on parents for sure.  One minute you are enjoying the summer and the next minute you are scrambling to buy clothes, school supplies, shoes, etc.

A lot has changed since I was a student.  In college I had an electric typewriter - that was in high demand at the dorms!  In even more demand was the word processor that one of the other girls had.  All of this is so obviously outdated or obsolete by today's standards.

Students today need to be equipped with the proper technology tools to succeed.  Whether a college student or  a student entering high school OR simply a grade school kid sharing a family computer, technology is a must.

My elementary and middle school aged kids have specific sites to visit that are required for homework and my high schooler uses various online tools.  A home PC is a truly a must - I cannot imagine not having one.  In addition to regular homework, the girls frequently have projects that require printing, whether for papers, presentations or graphics - all requiring a PC that is user friendly but can perform on demand!

Walmart is a great option for back to school - with everyday low prices and great variety, Walmart is sure to have everything your family needs for back-to-school!   (In fact, I was even there today picking up some last minute back to school items...)

If you are considering investing in a PC, HP products are available at Walmart this back to school season, including the HP Pavilion dv6-7029wm Entertainment PC, the HP Deskjet 3052a e-All-in-One printer, and HP XL ink cartridges.

  • Norton Internet Security 2012 (60 days)

The HP All-in-One Printers are wonderful because you can fax, scan or print. Even if your home office is simply a computer desk, with this printer properly set up you can have the functionality that you would in a complete home office!

While you are at Walmart looking over the fabulous HP selection, don't forget to stock up on your back to school items.  Check out my video on back to school shopping at Walmart and the HP video on the DV6 below:

… we believe in making apparel that says something special about those who buy it and those who wear it. Why not buy them something unique and inspiring to wear? An artful tee, dress or onesie that allows them to exhibit something more

exhibit kids is a company that specializes in producing children's clothing featuring original artwork.  The designs are fresh, modern, funky and bright! - just like the perfect child in your life!  The best part?  Not only will your child be stylin' - he or she will also be supporting the arts..... for each tee shirt sold, 20% of the net profits are given to the artist!

Check out all of the current designs on Pinterest!

I received the Flower Girl Dress to review -  a racerback tank that can be used as a dress for young children or as a tee for older children.  The fabric is a very high quality  - much thicker and heavier than that on a standard tank top.  The design is adorable.  Any little girl would love this!  The prices are a little higher (in the $30 and up range) but the fabric quality and design are excellent and part of the profits go to support the artists.

Note card gift set project

Individual Card

When I was vacationing in Bellingham, WA this summer, I went to a demonstration at Stampadoodle.  Demos are held weekly on Wednesdays and the one I attended was on using up your scrap paper.  I wish I took down the instructor's name so I could give credit.

Basically she showed us how to make card holders from card stock, scraps and embellishments.  I absolutely loved this idea and think it makes a fantastic gift.  I will probably do a post where I show where the actual card holder is made - it looks complicated but is very, very easy to make.

When I got home I knew that I was going to make a few of these.  This is the first one I have completed.  I also actually made the card holder but added matching cards.

Materials used:

  • Grey Core'dinations cardstock
  • Various scrapbooking papers in aqua, orange, brown and white prints
  • Die cut image
  • Marbled card stock
  • Corner punches
  • Floral, circle and scalloped circle punches
  • Washi tape
  • Rhinestones
  • Embroidery thread
  • Buttons
  • Rhinestones
  • Dazzles 3-d silver stickers
  • Glue dots and glue stick were primarily used for adhesive, with the exception of the card holder, for which double-sided tape was used

See below:

Insert Cards in Holder

Challenges:
I am entering this project in the Piggy Back Card sketch challenge at http://unscriptedsketches.com/  (#172) With the exception of the green, I hit all the colors and the sketch is similar to the lines and layout used in the card.  but..... the green is actually on the card holder so I guess it made it in there :)

http://www.totallygorjuss.blogspot.com/ has a project this week that incorporates using string.  I'm in!

I am also entering the one card (not entire project)  in the "Less is More" Challenge at http://simplylessismoore.blogspot.com/.  Even though there are a few embellishments, the design is clean with simple lines and elements.

And finally, on recommendation (thanks Alicia!) I am entering at the Play Date Cafe http://theplaydatecafe.blogspot.com/ for challenge PDCC 145.

Feel free to share your projects :)

Skinnygirl white cranberry COSMO review

"Drink Like a Lady"
This review is for those 21 and older.

A few months ago I was asked to review the white cranberry COSMO from SkinnyGirl .  I am more of a wine drinker so this sat in my kitchen for a while.  I finally had an excuse to open the bottle when a friend was over and a neighbor also stopped by.

Skinnygirl white cranberry COSMO is a ready to serve drink to it is great to have on hand for when you have company.  Both friends asked what it was and said how much they loved it.  I was surprised that I really liked it too - The Skinnygirl white cranberry COSMO did not  have the overwhelming alcohol taste that mixed drinks typically do.

I actually remembered that I never wrote this review when I went to look to see where Skinnygirl was sold locally as I want to pick up a couple of bottles - one for the house and one for a gift!  So obviously I would and will purchase for myself :)

Skinnygirl also offers a complete line of ready to serve cocktails, a wine collection and flavored vodkas.  Visit this link to find out about more Skinnygirl Cocktails beginnings and where they are today.  Hint - Bethany Frankel has something to do with it :)

Check out the informative and fun videos below to learn more!

In the US must be 21 or older - contains alcohol.  May not be available where restricted.  To see if Skinny Girl is sold in your area, please use the PRODUCT LOCATOR.

Thank you to Skinnygirl cocktails for a great review opportunity.   I did receive a bottle of Skinnygirl for review purposes.  I did not receive any other form of compensation.

Fiber One® Nutty Clusters & Almonds Review and Giveaway

We are cereal people and go through a ton each week.  My husband, the kids and I all love it.  I volunteered to try the new Fiber One cereal and I am glad I did.  Not only was it high in fiber, but it was also delicious!    If you want to try a new product this month, I recommend this one!

Introducing the newest flavor in the Fiber One® cereal line-up, Fiber One® Nutty Clusters & Almonds! This is a great combination of crunch and sweetness, this new cereal is a great (and tasty!) way to help get fiber you need.  This is full of nut clusters (yum!),  real sliced almonds and whole grain flakes and does NOT taste like most fiber cereals.  I could not even tell it was a high fiber option.

-  Contains 11 grams of fiber (43% of the Daily Value)

- 23 grams of whole grain (at least 48 recommended daily)
- 180 calories per serving

I was asked to answer the question "Has Nutty Clusters & Almonds cereal changed how you think about fiber?"

My answer.... It really did - I still cannot believe that was a high fiber cereal.   It did not taste at all like any other high fiber cereal I had tried.

9 out of 10 Americans don´t get enough fiber in their diet. The Recommended Daily Value of 25 grams per day of fiber.  I am not sure if I am hitting or missing this target but with 11 grams of fiber, this cereal definitely helps me meet that goal.

Visit http://bit.ly/Fiber1NCA coupon to download a printable coupon for $1.25 off one box of Fiber One Nutty Clusters & Almonds cereal today! (US only, WHILE SUPPLIES LAST)  You´re just a click away from starting your day off the right way with a bowl of Fiber One Nutty Clusters & Almonds!

Pillsbury Artisan Pizza Crust with Whole Grain Giveaway

I love baking from scratch but let's be honest..... I simply do not have the time. I work full time - often 60 plus hours per week.  I have three kids and my husband works shift work.  Add Scouts, Sports, School and my free time is in the negative.  As such I have to find shortcuts and more efficient ways to do many things including cleaning, laundry, cooking and baking.

Taking a short cut does not mean short on quality!  I have made many items from scratch that taste no better than using a mix or a pre-prepared meal.

I was offered the chance to try New Pillsbury® Artisan Pizza Crust with Whole Grain.  My kids love making pizza at home but instead of mixing up dough I can use the ready to make pizza crust.  Simply roll it out on the pan, add your toppings and bake according to the directions.

The Pillsbury® Artisan Pizza Crust is so EASY to use.  This would also be so easy to make different pizzas for different family members.  The kids love cheese and pepperoni but sometimes we want to add more adult ingredients.  Have one pizza for the kids and one for the adults or serve up individual pies where everyone makes their own - the possibilities are endless with New Pillsbury Artisan Pizza Crust with Whole Grain.

What are the other benefits?
- 16 grams of whole grain per serving,
- conveniently available in the refrigerated section of your local grocery store

Quick and convenient new Pillsbury Artisan Pizza Crust with Whole Grain will help you add some pizzazz to your homemade pizza along with the benefits of whole grain!

Amazing World and Zings - tweet to win!

I have always loved games and my kids do too.  Although they love some of the same classic board games that I did, they are more prone to play a game on the computer.   We have invested quite a bit in CD-Roms Discs through the years.  Now children are more likely to play games online.  The ones my children like most are the interactive ones that incorporate fantasy with real life.

Besides the standard "hand-eye coordination", what are the benefits of gaming?  Most games for children have some sort of educational element, even if buried in entertainment - from ABCs and 123s to social interactions or choosing right from wrong.  Computer games can also keep kids engaged, and with parental participation, is a great avenue to open interactions between the parent and child.

My girls use both free sites and premium sites.  They really love the online worlds where you purchase a product or subscription, go to enter codes or use tokens.  Both received Visa gift cards for Christmas this year and could have used them on anything.  Instead they used the cards on premium online memberships to the gaming sites of their choice (with our approval).

Ganz Studios has produced a new online 3-D virtual world and you can learn all about it here!  Amazing World 3D game is a new game for children - this is a world where players discover, create, and make new friends in a controlled environment  What is great about this site is that it is actually FREE to play!

Zings are the adorable, cuddly creatures that inhabit Amazing World that players can name and customize.  Players can choose the free-to-play option by picking a generic Zing at AmazingWorld.com.  (You can also sign up as a member to unlock other features).    Players can care for their Zings, chat with friends, complete missions, collect prizes and customize their virtual homes and avatars.

Fun and Prizes!  Zings are toys that you can purchase separately.  You can register your Zing online - the Amazing World site fully integrates with the toy for an enhanced gaming experience.  Registering a Zing will bring your favorite characters to life within the game with exclusive prizes.

You get the virtual representation of the figure or plush within Amazing World plus an exclusive item!

Visit Amazing World on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/AmazingWorldGame   View the video below for more information:

Trial Accounts do have some limitations:

- Level capped at 20
- 4 friend limit
- Access to up but not exceeding four hosts
- Limited access to items to purchase / win

You can register for an account, but the premium accounts on a subscription basis offer much more - you will have full access to all of the features that Amazing world offers.  Memberships range from 3 month to 12 month subscriptions for $23.85 - $60.00 USD.  Again, Amazing World is FREE but you if you try it out and love it, you can give your child a subscription.

Huge RE:Writes Back-to-School Review and Giveaway!

My kids are obsessed with dry erase boards. Miss E. even has one that she carries around the house to write notes on, play school, make lists, etc.  This year when we went back-to-school shopping she ended up poaching the dry erase markers that were intended as a classroom donation....

It’s Academic has a great new product - just in time for back to school! Introducing RE:writes dry erase notes.  As soon as I found out about RE:writes I thought of Miss E. :)

This product is new and innovative – it’s as flexible as a sticky note, as reusable as a dry erase board but combines the best properties of both!

These notes will grip, hold and peel right off – using no adhesive and leaving no residue. The new RE:writes are now available in stores like Wal*Mart and Walgreens, RiteAid, Meijer and OfficeMax (staring at just $5.99)

I was asked to review Re:writes.  Here are a few shots I took using the same note in sequential order:

On a wood hutch (fine furniture)

On the wine cooler (reflection of Kitchen in background)

On the kitchen cabinets

My review:
These were extremely easy to use.  The dry-erase notes have a tacky-rubberized backing that very easily sticks to most solid surfaces.
  • Easy to use
  • Can be used for multiple purposes
  • Green - resuseable over and over again!
  • From my experience it did  not leave residue or strip surfaces
  • Simple to quickly erase and re-write notes
  • Appropriate to use at work, at school or at home
  • Fun for kids (Parents should supervise young children as there are small pieces and marker pen)
I did find that I had to press more firmly on some surfaces than others to get the RE:writes to stick.  For example, it stuck very easily to glass surfaces such as the microwave, wine cabinet or mirror.  It also adhered easily to the wood surfaces but I did need to apply a little bit more pressure to get it to attach compared to the glass.  The RE:writes did not stick as well to drywall but the results varied depending on the type of paint (flat, eggshell, satin or gloss).

After a few erases using the felt pen top, the felt eraser was covered in ink.  Due to this the RE:writes note slightly smudged when I again erased which you can see in the picture.  I found that taking a separate clean dry cloth removed most of this smudging.

The Re:writes can be used for SO many purposes and in so many places....
  • Post morning reminders next to your house keys to take medication or grab something to bring with you to school or work.
  • On the bathroom mirror leave notes for other members in your family with simple reminders or sweet sentiments (just because!).
  • On the front door post a message to neighbors, the postman/postwoman or UPS/FedEx delivery person.
  •  Leave instructions for babysitters or house guests in the guest room or in the guest bath.
  • On the larger notes write appointment reminders or instructions for dinner and post on the fridge.
  • Share a joke to brighten someone's day
  • Want to make a donation to your child's classroom?  These are perfect!

OK - this is HUGE. I was provided with the opportunity to give away a MEGA It’s Academic School Supplies Pack to one of my readers (valued at $250) .  The prize is similar to the one pictured above.  Jealous!  This is such a fabulous prize.  To enter simply read the rules and complete the mandatory entries on the Rafflecopter form below.  Extra Entries are available for following RE:writes and momanthology.com on Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest. Good Luck to All :)

WA Vacation Pictures and Carmex Sticks Giveaway

First the Vacation Part.....

I have been gone for a while.  We just returned from Summer Vacation where we had a blast.  This year we went to the Pacific Northwest - SO much fun.

While we were there we did everything from sledding (yes! sledding in the summer) to water slides at Birch Bay and Tubing on Whatcom Lake.  We visited Larrabee Park and even though we did not see any Seal Pups, we did see hundreds of Purple star fish and a few hermit crabs. I took a side trip to Stampadoodle, a wonderful Stamping / Papercrafting store.  Oh, and how could I forget???  We also had one ER visit for a potential case of appendicitis - thankfully it was just a virus.

Thanks to my MIL, SIL and BIL for planning such great activities - the ER visit obviously not included..... Check out the photos below!  The Mount Baker and Hospital photos were taken by my SIL and the other photos were taken by me using my iPhone via my favorite App, Hipstamatic.
