Miss C. is currently into the dark, vampy nail polish - I was ordering some AVON for her and added a polish at a good price to the other things she requested. When I received the bottle it was not as dark as I expected but I figured she would be happy anyways. I did not tell her I was ordering this - I did it as a surprise.
Me: "Miss C., Come here for a minute"
Miss C.: "Why?"
Me: "I want to show you something"
Miss C. walks over and I point to the AVON.
Me: Happily "Let me know what you think."
Miss C. starts to open the boxes . 30 seconds later....
Miss C.: disgusted "What is this? This isn't BLACK!"
NOT the response I was expecting
Me: incredulous "What?"
Miss C.: with pure disgust "Is this BROWN?"
Me: 1/2 hurt and 1/2 angry "What are you, blind? No it is not brown!"
OK - not the right thing to say but I was pretty aggravated with her lack of gratitude.
Miss C.: Defensive "WTF?!"
Me: Shocked but quickly "OK, you are grounded. I won't tolerate that sort of language."
Miss C.: more defensive. "Well what do you expect? That was MEAN!"
Me: matter of fact like "I don't care. You are still grounded."
FLASH FORWARD 2 days
Miss C. walking in the door and through the living room after dance class
Me: casually "How was dance class?"
breezing by me.....
Miss C.: with attitude "Yah, sure"
OK, I should be the one saying "WTF". I mean seriously, WTF????
Yesterday I reminded Miss C. that she was grounded. She asked "Why?" of course. Selective memory. When I reminded her of these two conversations she gave me an excuse of having a falling out with one of her friends. This was of course a valid reason for being upset but not a valid reason for talking to me that way.
She tried to talk her way out of it, going as far as to call the first conversation "funny". Well I did not think it was funny. Naturally she was not happy about this as she was invited to a weekend sleep over. I knew that she would try talking me into it again but let it drop for the night.
Last weekend Miss C. was supposed to have a sleepover with another friend but that never came to fruition -the other girl was grounded for sassing back to her mom and dad. Today when Miss C. did not mention this weekend's planned sleepover , I knew something was up. When I finally asked her about it she said the sleepover was canceled. One of the girls had plans with her family and the other two were also grounded.
At least I am not the only one grounding my kid. Far from it apparently. Ah, the teen years.

I'm a bit scared as I have 2 girls. I have a feeling they will be grounded quite often :) Thank you for sharing. I actually quite enjoyed the dialog :)
